NYAHURURU (KEN, Dec 3): The fifth NBK/AK National Cross Country series meeting in Nyahururu served up new winners in the four categories after some of the expected top contenders failed to show-up, some no doubt put off by the soggy under foot conditions. Informs IAAF. Paul Lonyangata won the men´s 12 km in 36:47 ahead of Linus Chumba (36:52) and Caleb Mwangangi (37:10). Margaret Wangari was the best in women 8 km (27:43) clearly over Fridah Chelangat (28:04) and Veronica Nyaruai (28:19). Junior winners were Justin Cheruiyot (8 km, 24:06) and Mercy Kibowen (20:37, 6 km).

LONDON (GBR): Up to 50 cities are capable of hosting the proposed European Games when it is possibly launched in 2015 reports Insidethegames. A report on the event, which would bring Europe into line with the other continents who already stage their own Games, has been undertaken by Deloitte and was presented at the European Olympic Committees (EOC) at its General Assembly in Sochi this week. On April 12th the NOC’s of European countries will decide whether to proceed with the Games which could be launched in 2015. In the plan are 15 or 16 sports.

RIYADH (KSA): Saudi Arabia has agreed to let female athletes join their all-male delegation to the 2012 Olympics in a bid to block threats to bar them from the games if they didn’t let women participate. The move came after a warning last year by Anita DeFrantz , who heads the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Women and Sports Commission, that any country that didn’t allow female athletes to compete would be barred from the global competition reports gantdaily.com.

WARSZAWA (POL): Poland´s 800 m runner Anna Rostkowska gave birth to a daughter recently. Little Olga was born on October 29 (3.12 kg and 54 cm) and is together with mother in good condition. Father Piotr Rostkowski is not only her husband but also the coach and former national record holder at 1500 m 3:35.62 in 1997. The 31 years old
Rostkowska was Beijing 2008 and Berlin 2009 semifinalist and clocked 1:58.72 life-time best as 4th at Paris DL meet in 2008. She plans returning to training already in December.

LAUSANNE (SUI): European Athletics opened the vote for the European Athlete of the Month Award for October. The road running season kicked off in earnest in October with hundreds of thousands of Europeans taking part in many of the major city marathons taking place throughout the world. Although African runners have a clear dominance on the men's side, European women had their fair share of success. European Athletics is pleased to announce that athletes from 11 countries have been nominated for the award. The voting will close on Monday 21 November.

BRUSSELS (BEL): European 3000 m and 5000 m record holder Mohammed Mourhit is thinking about a comeback into the sport. Mourhit, a Morrocan born athlete competing for Belgium, was highly accomplished at the end of the nineties but left the sport after a positive doping result at the World half marathon championships in Brussels in 2002. The now 41-year old Mourhit is aiming for the London Olympic Games according to Belgian Media. He should run a cross country competition later in November.

INDIANAPOLIS (USA): USA Track & Field announced Tuesday the selection of all-time track and field greats Gail Devers, Maurice Greene, Vince Matthews, and Clarence Demar, along with standout coach Bob Timmons, into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame. The five will be inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame, along with 2010 Hall selection Craig Virgin, on Saturday evening, December 3, at the Jesse Owens Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in conjunction with 2011 USATF Annual Meeting in St. Louis.

LAUSANNE (SUI): The Helsinki 2012 European Athletics Championships are set to be the first-ever sports event at which the European Broadcasting Union will be directly involved as host broadcaster. In partnership with Finnish national broadcasters YLE, the Eurovision Production Co-ordination SA will produce the first European Athletics Championships to follow the new two-year cycle entirely in High Definition. “The Barcelona 2010 European Athletics Championships set a high benchmark and we are committed to take it to another level. We are going to bring an unprecedented video quality into the homes of athletics fans next year” said Franck Choquard, Managing Director of Eurovision Production Co-ordination SA and Chief Executive of the host broadcast team of Helsinki 2012.

LONDON (GBR): Also legendary hurdler Edwin Moses has joined a team of international ambassadors that supports London’s bit to host the 2017 IAAF World Championships. Moses, the recipient of the 2012 Global UNESCO Award for social change for good with the power of sport, won gold at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics and first competed in England in 1978. „There is a great culture of the sport in this country and the spectators really respect athletics and the athletes. LONDON (GBR): Britain's rising young discus star Lawrence Okoye has been named as the latest ambassador for London's bid to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships and also a member of the Athletes' Commission. As the youngest member of the London bid team's Athlete Commission, Okoye will have the unique opportunity to influence London's bid for a Championships that, at age 25 in the summer of 2017, he will hope to be peaking at. TALLINN (EST): European Athletics informs that former Olympic decathlon champion Erki Nool and renowned jumping coach Yevgeniy Zagorulko of Russia (Ukhov, Chicherova, Silnov) shared their expertise and experiences at the European Decathlon Conference held in the Estonian capital city of Tallinn earlier this month. Over 75 athletes and coaches from six countries – Estonia, Latvia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland and Norway took part in the two-day conference where the main focus was on the jumps discipline of the decathlon event. The Conference, a part of the 2011 European Athletics Summit Series, was hosted by the Estonian Athletic Association.

MELBOURNE (AUS): Cathy Freeman was named the 2011 legend and inducted into the prestigious group of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in Melbourne. The two-time world champion over the 400m relived her Olympic glory from Sydney 2000 as she took to the stage and admitted that she still hasn’t had chance to get her head around what those Games did for her. Sydney and that night is definitely the jewel in the crown of my career Freeman said on stage.

LONDON (GBR): Tottenham Hotspur’s judicial review against the decision to award the Olympic Stadium to West Ham United after London 2012 will not be taking place as planned after the Premier League club withdrew. The dropping of the judicial review follows last week’s decision that the venue would remain in public ownership rather than be handed over to the Championship club after London 2012. Tottenham confirmed to insidethegames that they would no longer be going ahead with the legal action.

TORONTO (CAN): Two-Time Canadian Olympian and 2007 world silver medalist Gary Reed has launched the Reed Athletics Fund, a Track & Field Non-Profit organization. That is to provide financial and other support to Canadian men and women attempting to participate in the Olympics and World Championships. Reed wants to help them during the developmental phase of their sporting careers to assist them in reaching their full potential. Reed, now a real estate advisor in Vancouver, has committed to donate a portion of his income to the Fund and intends to support it for the rest of his life.

BEIJING (CHN): Mirko Jalava clarifies the Beijing Marathon women winner. Apparently there were two distance runners in China named "Wei Jie" this season. The other one decided to change her name to "Wei Xiaojie" to avoid confusion. The winner of the Beijing marathon is a 22-year-old athlete, the same as the winner of Zhengzhou marathon earlier this season in 2:26. She is from city of Dalian in Liaoning Province. The other one is born in 1993 and ran 15:40.31 5000m and 32:53.63 10000m there. She is from Jiangsu Province.

KINGSTON (JAM): Track Alerts says that Glen Mills, coach of world champions Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, has called on all those concerned, the government, Jamaica Administrative Athletic Association (JAAA) and the private sector to do more for track & field at the senior level to preserve the country’s legacy. Mills said the time has gone when Jamaican athletes who trained overseas would dominate the country’s team section. He also believes with the success by Jamaica in recent years, things will be changed in the US for Jamaicans.

BEIJING (CHN): The 2011 Beijing International Marathon will have Kenyan Samuel Muturi with 2:08:20 best and 2009 winner in Beijing as the top name. Another name to mention is Prague this year winner Benson Barus with 2:07:07 PB. Without best home runners the women favorite is double world champion and olympic silver medalist Catherine Ndereba of Kenya.

GUADALAJARA (MEX): The new stadium for track and field for the Pan American Games has been approved by the IAAF, the athletics world governing body. The track and field venue, which is just being completed with the opening ceremony set for Friday, will hold 8,500 fans and was built at a cost reported at $28 million.

AMSTERDAM (NED): The Dutch Athletics Federation KNAU has decided to keep its national records in the women’s marathon age categories as well as other distances in the road races. The KNAU decided against following the IAAF’s recent decision concerning the women’s marathon world records as they feel it is not necessary to implement the rule on a national level.

KINGSTON (JAM): Top sprinters Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Asafa Powell were recognized at a recent function held at University of Technology (UTech) to update the public on its “Road to Olympic Glory” campaign. It was announced that a special grant scholarship to benefit children - the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce scholarship - will be offered by UTech. This will be made possible through funds raised from this year’s annual bazaar, staged by the International Proxy Parents, a charitable organisation in Jamaica. Fraser-Pryce is still a student at UTech. It was also announced that Powell will be awarded the Chancellor’s Medal next month, which is usually presented to individuals who are outstanding in sports. BARCELONA (ESP): Zurich Insurance has reached an agreement with the company RPM Racing to become from now on the Title Sponsor of the Marató de Barcelona. The official names will be so changed to Zurich Marató de Barcelona. As the first official sponsor in the history of the event, the Zurich Group wants to give full support to the city of Barcelona and to one of its international initiatives in sports. The company is strongly committed to Barcelona, where its Spanish headquarters are located, and seeks to position the Marató as one of the most important events on the international scene. LONDON (GBR): London 2012 and Atos, the worldwide information technology partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, will officially unveil the Technology Operations Centre – the mission control for all 94 Olympic competition and non-competition venues. The launch follows the first phase of the London Prepares Series, during which the London 2012 technology team together with Atos, the lead integrator and the other technology partners have worked in partnership to deliver the IT for all the test events. For the London 2012 Games, Atos expects to process 30 per cent more results data than in Beijing in 2008 ensuring the world's media meets the increasing demand of fans for information as it happens. NASSAU (BAH): Bahamas will be represented at the Pan American Games by a strong 13-member team in athletics. Donald Thomas, winner of the 2007 Osaka World Championships high jump title, heads the team, which also includes 2010 World indoor 400m champion Chris Brown, who is also the defending champion at these Games. Brown also helped Bahamas to the 4x400m world title in 2001 and Olympic silver medal in 2008. Laverne Eve, the 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin champion, and winner at seven Central American and Caribbean Championships, and 2011 CAC 200m champion Michael Mathiew, a member of the Beijing Olympic 4x400m relay silver medal team, are also included in the squad. GLASGOW (GBR): Glasgow 2014 has appointed the highly-experienced Australian Jacqui Murdoch as its director of Games time delivery. Murdoch has been involved in several major events since 2000 when she was the venue manager for beach volleyball at the Sydney Olympics. Since then she has worked for Vancouver 2010, where she was the vice-president Games services and accommodation at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Murdoch has also worked on the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games respecitvely, working as the deputy director sport and venues at Manchester and as the general manager, venues and overlay in Melbourne. She also worked as a consultant for London 2012, where she was an expert advisor for venue planning, and most recently Rio 2016, where she advised on Games strategy and governance.

CHELYABINSK (RUS): World 800 m champion Mariya Savinova informed that she will spent now some time at home in Chelyabinsk and heal her slight injuries from the summer. Then she plans the traditional training camp in Kirgizstan. During that time she will decide whether to compete during the indoor season. “There will be no experiments like this winter when I competed only once at 600 m during Russian Winter meet,” she said.

AUSTIN (USA): World decathlon champion Trey Hardee had successful surgery on the ACL in his right elbow. Hardee hurt himself in his last javelin throw at the world championships, knowing that he needed a big throw to win the gold medal. Once Hardee returned check-ups showed the ACL was fully blown and surgery was needed. Hardee will be able to throw in competitions as soon as April 2012 and keeps his goal of winning the 2012 Olympic Games.

LONDON (GBR): Athletics Weekly writes that showing off the scars on her ankle from the career-threatening fractures she endured earlier this year, 2008 World Junior Champion Stephanie Twell made a successful return to racing last weekend with the eighth fastest split of the day at the Aldershot and South of England Road Relays. The 22-year-old’s career looked to be in shreds in January when she broke her ankle in three places while leading a cross country race in Belgium. “I remember lying down and looking at my leg and I could see the bone underneath the skin at an odd angle,” she said of her injury. “It was a spiral fracture, diagonally up the bone, with a shard broken o? at the back.” She clocked 13:03, the eighth best time of the day and the fifth best in her Aldershot, Farnham & District team. She now plans to go to Kenya in November with the UKA squad and then race at the European cross country trials in Liverpool in late November. She is, she believes, also still on course to compete for Britain in the 1500m at the 2012 Olympics, followed by the 5000m in 2016 and the marathon in 2020.

TORONTO (CAN): The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced that Jacob Zorzella-Manners, an athletics athlete, has received a two-month sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The violation occurred during in-competition doping control on June 25, 2011 and resulted from the athlete’s urine sample returning an adverse analytical finding for cannabis. He is this years Canadian triple jump champion with 15.80 personal best.

LONDON (GBR): Mo Farah and Dai Greene, Britain’s two newest athletics heroes, have joined together with some of the sport’s greatest names from the past, including Denise Lewis and Jonathan Edwards, to back London’s bid to host the 2017 World Championships at the Olympic Stadium writes Insidethegames. They have all been unveiled as official ambassadors for the bid, the first significant initiative by UK Athletics since the campaign was officially launched earlier this year. Other ambassadors unveiled include Phillips Idowu and Hannah England. LONDON (GBR): Sebastian Coe has claimed that everyone working on the London bid for the 2017 IAAF World Championships will continue to do so until the very end in order to convince the IAAF and the athletics family that the capital should stage the event. The double Olympic 1500 meters champion has claimed that the key to winning the race to host the 2017 competition is convincing his colleagues at the IAAF that London is the best place for the event before the IAAF’s ruling Council gather to vote on the hosts in Monte Carlo on November 11 writes Insidethegames.

BORDEAUX (FRA): Bertrand Valcin, coach of European decathlon champion Romain Barras, has been severely injured following an incident in which he was set on fire. Following the Decastar combined event meeting, in which Barras had to pull out after three events, the team of Barras, Yean-Yves Cochand and Bertrand Valcin went to the house of El Hassan El Ouakkali. El Ouakkali claimed Valcin had an affaire with his wife and the two started a fight. El Ouakkali then poured gasoline over Valcin and set him on fire. Jean-Yves Cochand managed to help Valcin but the coach remains in the hospital with second and third degree wounds.

LONDON (GBR): UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner has revealed that London are looking to host the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Athletics Championships if they are awarded the 2017 World Athletics Championships later this year. London are currently locked in a two-horse race with Doha for the prestigious event with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) set to decide on where the 2017 competition is staged at their Council meeting in Monte Carlo on November 11.

NEWCASTLE (GBR): Ken Nakamura offers stats after running weekend. Mathew Kisorio is third fastest, Sammy Kitwara is fourth fastest, and Martin Mathathi is the seventh fastest in history. 58:47 by Sammy Kitwara is the fastest 2nd place time (fastest losing time) in history. MADRID (ESP): Spanish sprinter Estela Garcia (11.68 and 23.87 bests) did not participate in Daegu after failing a doping test conducted during the national championships early August. BRUSSELS (BEL): Second year of Samsung Diamond League will end on Friday in Brussels at Van Damme Memorial. Usain Bolt, David Rudisha, Yohan Blake, Kenenisa Bekele, Veronica Campbell-Brown are just a few of top stars at this last big gathering of stars on the track circuit 2011.

100m : Usain Bolt will be the star of the evening in a special staged 100m. He is coming to Brussels with the aim of running a world leading performance, which currently belongs to Asafa Powell with 9.79. Also in the race is Justin Gatlin and Nesta Carter.

200m: World 100m champion Yohan Blake hopes to improve on his 19.78 personal best, even though it has been a long season for the youngster. American Walter Dix wins the DR in case he competes.

400m: Belgian twins Jonathan and Kevin Borlée are set to light up the stadium in this non DL event. A Belgian win is highly anticipated by Belgian media and the home country.

800m: Abubaker Kaki and world record holder David Rudisha go head to head. Not only for the win in Brussels but also for the DR win. Kenyan Asbel Kiprop is also still in the race, as well as Alfred Yego Kirwa.

5000m: Ethiopian Imane Merga and Kenyan Vincent Kiprop Chepkok are both going for the DR win.

LONDON (GBR): Shaun Dawson, the chief executive of the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, has told the London Assembly that there is still a possibility Leyton Orient could move to Eton Manor following the conclusion of the London 2012 Games. The League One club, along with Tottenham Hotspur, have been granted a judicial review into the decision by the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) to award the Olympic Stadium to West Ham. The judicial review is due to take place on October 18 with Orient hopeful they can overturn the OPLC's decision writes Insidethegames.

KINGSTON (JAM): Former 100m world record holder, Asafa Powell, is certain that after retirement he will be remembered as one of the greatest sprinters in history, whether or not he manages to secure a global title. LONDON (GBR): Insidethegames writes that London and Doha will go head-to-head to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships after Barcelona withdrew its bid. Barcelona, the host city of the 1992 Olympics and Paralympics, widely considered one of the most successful in history, had been nominated as Spain's candidate less than two weeks ago but have now decided not to proceed with its bid. It meant that when the deadline set by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for bids was reached at midnight on August 31 only Doha and London had submitted applications. It is understood that Real Federación Española de Atletismo (RFEA), athletics' governing body in Spain, dropped their bid because of lack of financial guarantees from the Government and the city. Dutch Dafne Schippers bettered the national senior record to 22.69 in the 200 m heats (-0.3) and is now 6th best ever junior in Europe and all results ahead of her coming from 1980-1991, also 6th best European senior result of 2011.

Olympic winner 2008 Irving Saladino out from long jump, 784 cm. On the other hand positive surprise from long jump world champion Dwight Phillips without competing since June 25 and having only 3 competitions during the whole year was the best with excellent 832 cm.

JAMAICA: Grace Jackson, team leader of the Jamaican delegation here in Daegu at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, has registered her disappointment with the food offering inside the Athletes' Village and has called for the provision of a chef for teams travelling at major championships in the future. Jackson shared that the entire Jamaican delegation, including the athletes, are far from impressed with the options here, and relayed the difficulties faced with the high concentration of Asian food being presented to the athletes. Writes The Gleaner. National 400m record holder Jermaine Gonzales complained about the food after his fourth-place finish in the final on Tuesday, but he isn't the only one having difficulties.

BUDAPEST (HUN): All-Athletics.com publishede the Top 10 male and female performances of the World Championships in Daegu, after Day 5. The lists are made according to the rules of the All-Athletics.com Overall Rankings. The leaders so far are Yohan Blake of Jamaica and Tatyana Chernova of Russia. Blake and his 9.92 against -1.4 wind is worth 1542 points (including points for position) ahead of Jason Richardson and his 13.16 (-1.1) worth 1528 and 590 of Pawel Wojciechowski in pole vault (1527). On the women side Chernova has 1568 points (the best overall) ahead of Valerie Adams (1551 for 21.24 shot put) and Yuliya Zaripova (1526 for 9:07.03 steeple).

CLEMENT: After crashing at the semifinals stage of the 400m hurdles in Daegu Kerron Clement disclosed he has been battling a groin injury. “For the last couple months I've been battling a groin injury. Of course, no one knows anything about it because I don't want to make any excuses about anything. I tried to push through the pain in the first round. It didn't really hurt as much in the first round. In the second round, I tried to go a little faster. And after the third hurdle I felt my groin pull and it really hurt me bad. I limped and I really couldn't finish the race. I'll come back next year stronger than ever." Informs TrackAlerts.

1st day: Two finals, first time held preliminary rounds, hammer midnight, late end for decathletes

DAEGU (KOR): On Saturday the 13th World Championships are starting. Two events will know their best athletes. In the morning women marathon and in the evening women 10 000 m. In both races Kenya and Ethiopia are having the strongest runners. Also decathlon starts with gruelling timing, first day ending at around 11 pm and second day starting at nine am. A debut at Worlds: Preliminary round in women and men 100 m will be staged for runners without standards. World record holder David Rudisha will be in the action in the midday 800 m heats. In the morning also women discus and men pole vault qualifications and in the evening women long jump and men hammer qualifications. Also in the programme women 3000 m steeple heats and women 400 m heats. Special experience for hammer throwers who will end their B-group around midnight local time. Usain Bolt runs 100 m heats in the evening, start lists will be known only after the preliminary round.

SOUTH AFRICA: Caster Semenya's manager says the global 800m champion will only defend her title in Daegu, South Korea next week if she can handle the emotional difficulties with which she is faced. “It's whether she handles the emotion that will determine how she does,” Jukka Harkonen was quoted.

DAEGU (KOR): London 2012 boss Sebastian Coe claimed that he did not believe the decision to hold a judicial review into the decision to award West Ham United the Olympic Stadium after London 2012 would compromise Britain's bid to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships.
