BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Olympic and two-time World Championship gold medallist Felix Sanchez is set to star in the first ever 400m indoor hurdles competition to take place on UK soil when it is showcased at Birmingham’s Aviva Grand Prix this Saturday. Sanchez, who won the Dominican Republic’s first ever Olympic gold at the 2004 Athens games, will join British runner Rick Yates in addition to American Reuben McCoy and France’s Heni Kechi at the NIA as the event is inaugurated into the Aviva Series. Organizers are informing in a release. Sanchez holds also the world best with 49.73 last year in Val du Reuil in France and European best in the same race French Sebastien Maillard 50.47.

JOHANNESBURG (RSA): Leonard Chuene, former president of Athletics South Africa (ASA) and former IAAF council member, has been found guilty on charges of poor corporate governance, misappropriation of funds and tax evasion. The disciplinary inquiry was instituted by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) after Chuene, his entire executive and three employees were suspended in late 2009. Two other former members of the ASA Board, vice-president Kakata Maponyane and director Simon Dlamini, have also been found guilty on the same charges. SASCOC elected to hand the matter back to the inquiry and the resulting outcome is that Chuene, Dlamini and Maponyane all have until Thursday, 17 February, to appeal the findings. Thereafter the disciplinary inquiry will announce their sanctions. Informs Race Results Weekly.

APELDOORN (NED, Feb 13): Rutger Smith returned to competition with 19.84 in the shot put at Dutch Indoor Championships. 800 m specialist and European medalist Yvonne Hak won the 1500 m in 4:21.83. In 60 m races Netherland Antilles import Brian Mariano clocked 6.70 to win and in women race Dafne Schippers equalled her national junior record 7.28.

TRONDHEIM (NOR, Feb 13): Also at Norwegian Championships the top result was registered in women high jump when Tonje Angelsen improved to 191 and beat Stine Kufaas (189).

SEATTLE (USA, Feb 12): Excellent distances at the Husky Classic (Dempsey track has 307 m) as US record holder Chris Solinsky improved his mile best to 3:54.52 ahead of Miles Batty 3:55.79 (first sub 4 of the career) and South African Hlaselo Dumisane 3:56.84. Tim Nelson achieved career best 7:49.95 in the 3000 m beating Garret Heath 7:50.28 (PB), Matt Centrowitz 7:50.59 (PB), Ryan Hill 7:50.78 (only 21 years, had 8:10 before), Kenyan Sam Chelanga 7:50.92 and miler Alan Webb 7:51.85. Top times in the 800 m by Elijah Greer 1:47.02 and Cory Primm 1:47.31. Lauren Bonds won the women mile in 4:34.65 ahead of Jordan Hasay 4:34.75, life time bests for both. Malindi Elmore won the 3000 m in 9:04.70.

AZUSA (USA, Feb 12): Olympic decathlon winner Bryan Clay competed at APU All-Comers indoor meet and clocked good 7.79 at 60 m hurdles.

Malin Dahlstrom improved Swedish pole vault record to 443 cm. Stefan Tarnhuvud posted 6.72 in the 60 m and Danish guest Kim Christensen achieved 19.66 in men´s shot put.

PRAGUE (CZE, Feb 12): World record holder Roman Sebrle is leading the national heptathlon with solid 3513 first day score. He was better as in Tallinn in two events and is healthy (7.16 - 767 - 15.69 - 208). His main aim is to achieve such a mark which will qualify him for Paris. Eliska Klucinova who is qualified for Paris based on 2010 results won the pentathlon with 4291 points (8.77 PB - 175 - 13.14 - 610 - 2:21.84).

BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Legendary hurdler Felix Sanchez is set to star in the first ever 400 m indoor hurdles competition to take place on UK soil when it is showcased at Birmingham’s Aviva Grand Prix next Saturday. Sanchez, who won the Dominican Republic’s first ever Olympic gold, at the 2004 Athens games, will join British runner Rick Yates at the NIA as the event is inaugurated into the domestic calendar. Informs UK Athletics. The innovative event, which originated in France and is staged at various meets in Europe, sees six athletes tackle eight hurdles – each 30m apart – as they run two laps of the indoor track.

FAYETTEVILLE (USA): Coached by legend Jackie Joyner Kersee, fast sprinter Marshevet Myers will return to the long jump after a 5-year hiatus. She’ll be jumping at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, site of her 2006 NCAA Indoor title in the event and PB of 671.

APELDOORN (NED): Some good duels are expected at the Dutch National indoor championships this weekend. European indoor gold and silver medalist Gregory Sedoc and Marcel Van der Westen will go head to head in the 60m hurdles, while Brian Mariano and Patrick Van Luijk duel it out in the 60m. In the women’s sprint race junior sensation Dafne Schippers will take on once again fellow junior Jamile Samuel. Schippers will also compete in the long jump in which she needs 645 to qualify for Paris. European silver decathlon medalist Eelco Sintnicolaas takes on the specialists in the pole vault, where Robbert-Jan Jansen is the favorite. Rutger Smith will make his long awaited return in the shot put while Yvonne Hak changes things up with an appearance in the 1500m.

LONDON (GBR): The British Olympic Association (BOA) will be issuing guidelines for Twitter to all 26 sports participating at the London 2012 Games in the hopes of avoiding unwanted headlines. The BOA has stressed the guidelines will in no way be enforced upon athletes and they will not be a set of rules or restrictions but will offer helpful advice on effective use of social networks reports Insidethegames.

LONDON (GBR): It has been reported that West Ham United will be offered the chance to take over the Olympic Stadium after London 2012, beating rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) executives have decided the offer from the club is a best solution. The Government and London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson will take a final decision in the coming weeks.
