NEW YORK (USA): The New York Road Runners released their final invited field for the 7th annual UAE Healthy Kidney 10-K, scheduled for Staturday, May 14, in Central Park. The 18 athletes on the list will be running for a $60,000 prize money purse, with $25,000 going to the winner, the largest first place prize of any road 10-K in the world. In addition, a $20,000 bonus is on offer should the winner break the course and Central Park record of 27:42 set by Ethiopian Gebre Gebremariam last year. Five men had road 10-K personal best times under 28 minutes, led by the two fastest men ever, Leonard Patrick Komon (26:44) and Micah Kogo (27:01), both of Kenya. Writes Race Results Weekly.

CANBERRA (AUS): London Olympics chief Sebastian Coe says he’d like to see Sydney’s party atmosphere from 2000 repeated at the 2012 Olympic Games. Organizing committee chairman Coe told a Parliament House breakfast on Wednesday that the Sydney Games were “the high-water mark for a sporting event ... party atmosphere that was driven by athlete-led performance in the venues, and that permeated the city and I think the whole country.” Coe said he’s also looking forward to five-time gold medalist Ian Thorpe returning to the Olympic pool next year, calling it a “fantastic prospect, his abilities and skills have inspired a generation of young swimmers in London.” Writes Thestar.com.

LONDON (GBR): UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner has been appointed to the prestigious position as chairman of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Sport Technical Committee (STC), meaning he will play a leading role in the development of the sport beyond London 2012 to Rio 2016. KINGSTON (JAM): Digicel Jamaica head of marketing Donovan White confirmed the telecommunications company was lucky to have sponsored triple gold winner Usain Bolt because now he represents the brand’s most treasured property. Digicel was the first corporate sponsor to sign Usain Bolt reports the Jamaican Observer.

PAVIA (ITA): Andrew Howe clocked his PB in the 400 meters with an impressive 45.70, which ranks him eleventh in the Italian all-time list. The former European long jump champion has run his first 400 meters race since 2006, when he clocked 46.03 some months before his European long jump title in Gothemburg. The long jump remains his priority but he has planned some sprint races in the early part of the season. “I am confident it will be a great season for me, as in 2006. I can improve my 200 meters PB set in 2004 at the World Junior Championships in Grosseto which I narrowly missed last September in Milan when I clocked 20.30”, said Howe, who trained in Qatar and California at the UCLA University during the winter. If he recovers well, Andrew Howe has not ruled out a 200 meters race next weekend at the Italian Club Championships. He is likely to make his debut in the long jump at the Coppa Italia in Florence (4-5 June). “I am available to run the 4x100 relay for the Italian team,” he also added.

BERLIN (GER): In an interview with leichtathletik.com Tim Lobinger revealed he is still dreaming of jumping 6m at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Lobinger, who has recently been distracted by appearances at the German version of ‘let’s dance’, wants to continue his career on the highest level for the next 2 year. The German athlete has already started working on a career after pole vaulting as he is taking classes to become a trainer.

KINGSTON (JAM): World and Olympic 100m Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is determined to leave her 6 month drug suspension behind her and does not feel any pressure to return to competition. Fraser-Pryce told AP she has left the negative comments surrounding her suspension in the past and now is highly motivated to win medals at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu. For the BBC Fraser-Pryce also spoke up for more and better education on drugs for athletes. The Jamaican sprinter pointed out that the rapid changes and difficult names on the WADA anti-doping list are confusing for athletes.

The previous mark of 68.93 was set by Lorraine Shaw in 2003. Talented Jack Green improved his day old life-time best in the 400 m Hurdles to 49.55 in his semi final. James Campbell threw 80.18 in the Javelin qualifying and Matthew Hunt improved from 71.90 to 76.77, both athletes coached by former World bronze medalist Mick Hill.
