LAUSANNE (SUI): The IOC is meeting in Laussanne to decide which channel should broadcast the Olympic Games after London 2012 in the USA. A figure of more than 4 billion dollar could be tabled by one of the major United States television networks. Representatives from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp Fox Sports, Walt Disney Co. comapny ESPN with ABC, and Comcast's NBC Universal will all be making presentations to the IOC at the Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne about their proposed Olympic coverage writes Insidethegames.

SAN DIEGO (USA, Jun 5): The big story of 14th San Diego Marathon was in the women's race. Buzunesh Deba, the Bronx-based Ethiopian who won the Honda LA Marathon last March, bolted through the first half in 69:20, accompanied by friend and compatriot Misiker Mekonnin Demissie. Deba broke Demissie and, although she slowed down in the second half, nonetheless ran an event record 2:23:31, the fastest ever marathon run in the State of California by a woman. Mekonnin got a personal best in second place (2:25:21). Third Helena Kirop 2:27:01 ahead of Russian Olena Shurkhno 2:28:34. Male winner Negari Terfa of Ethiopia achieved 2:11:18 over his team-mate Tesfaye Sendiku 2:12:23 and best Kenyan Gilbert Chepkwony 2:12:50. In the men's half-marathon, Meb Keflezighi was an easy winner after Martin Lel dropped out. Running 1:02:50, he won by about three minutes. Informs RRW.

ISTANBUL (TUR, Jun 4): The 16th Yilmaz Sazak international junior competition had also 4 senior events. In men´s 300 m Tamac Serdar clocked 33.27 and in the 2000 m Hayle Ibrahimov of Azerbaijan 5:15.08. In women´s 300 m Birsen Engin achieved 37.83 and in the mile Layes Abdullayeva of Azerbaijan 4:40.29. Both Azerbaijan marks are national records.

FIRENZE (ITA, Jun 4): During first day of Coppa Italia meet Marco Vistalli achieved 46.01 at 400 m, Giuseppe Gibilisco cleared 555 in pole vault. In triple jump Fabrizio Schembri with 16.92 (+0.7) beat young Daniele Greco (16.89) and favorite Fabrizio Donato (16.85). Aeronautica Milano achieved 39.37 in the 4x100 m and Giorgio Rubino 39:43.20 in the 10 000 m walk. Best women results, the 193 by Raffaella Lamera in high jump. Also to note 14.25 of Simona La Mantia in triple jump and 18.59 of Chiara Rosa in shot put. Silvia Salis got 70.98 in hammer and Beijing bronze medalist Elisa Rigaudo 21:12.73 in 5000 m walk.

NOVI SAD (SRB, Jun 4): During first day of Serbian Cup meet shot putter Asmir Kolasinac achieved London standard 20.50. Dragana Tomasevic was exact - 60.00 in discus.

KINGSTON (JAM): Jamaica’s Senior Championships to select this summer Daegu IAAF World Championships team will be held over four days, a first in the country’s history. Also, the country’s 100m male sprinters, apart from the latest 25 or those with times of 10.30 or faster, will have to run four rounds. If the total entries do not exceed 32 athletes, the contest will start at the quarterfinal stage (three rounds). In the women’s section, in the event that there are 24 or less entries, there will be two rounds, semifinals and finals. However, they will have to go four rounds if the entries exceed found rounds. The trials, for which entries will be closed on June 14 at 3p.m, will be held on June 23-26. The teams to make this year are CAC Senior Championships (July 15-17) in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; 13th IAAF World Championships (August 27 to September 4) and the XVI Pan Am Games (October 23-30) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

EUGENE (USA): Latest changes in the start list of Pre Classic were that multi-eventer Ashton Eaton will compete not only in the 110 m hurdles race but also in long jump. Eaton plans his first decathlon of the year for US Championships. No longer in the list US pole vault record holder Jenn Suhr.

FORMIA (ITA): British triple jumper Nathan Douglas (28) will be out of action until next year after sustaining two ligament ruptures during a training session in Italy. Informs Athletics Weekly and the athlete on his facebook. Douglas, the European silver medallist outdoors in 2006 and indoors in 2007, had been hoping to make a strong return to form in 2011 after battling several niggling injuries in recent years, and was due to open his outdoor campaign in Bydgoszcz. The Birmingham-based athlete had been doing a plyometrics session at the warm-weather training camp, which involved hopping on wooden boxes. But the box gave way and Douglas’s foot went straight through, resulting in two ligament ruptures. “Trust me, I will be doing everything within my power to get fit and healthy as quickly and efficiently as possible while aiming to compete in the 2012 indoor season,” he added. His best is 17.64 from 2005.

INDIANAPOLIS (USA): The 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will have more television exposure than ever before with the help of a partnership with Universal Sports. Two 90-minute broadcasts will air on Universal Sports on Saturday and Sunday, in addition to the previously scheduled shows on ESPN 2 and NBC. With the multi-platform approach, the championships will boast seven hours of television coverage. Universal Sports Television Network is available to more than 63 million U.S. homes in 51 markets reports USATF.

LONDON (GBR): World 400m record holder Michael Johnson believes Usain Bolt has the potential to improve on his own 100m and 200m world records. “He’s very, very young, still very, very raw, so there’s certainly still room for improvement, amazing as that may seem for somebody who is running as fast as he is,” Johnson said speaking at the launch of a partnership between the Laureus Sport for Good foundation and Connie Henry’s Track Academy in north London. Johnson also added he believed the Jamaican could break the world 400 record he set at the 1999 Seville world championships.

MADRID (ESP): Spanish Federation selected already four runners for the marathon at the World Championships in Daegu. They are European medalist Chema Martinez, Pablo Villalobos and Rafael Iglesias on the men side and as only woman Alessandra Aguilar.

AMSTERDAM (NED): Jolanda Keizer has withdrawn from the Hypo Meeting in Gotzis due to pain in her left foot. Keizer was hopeful to make her long awaited return to competition but has decided she will postpone her comeback until the IAAF combined events challenge in Kladno in June.

MADRID (ESP): Ramil Guliyev, one of Europe’s top sprinters, is set to miss this summer’s World Championships and next year’s Olympics Games in London after a nasty little tug-of-war contest has broken out between Turkey and his native Azerbaijan. Guliyev ran a European junior 200m record of 20.04, when winning at the 2009 World University Games in an Azerbaijan vest, and was also the continent’s fastest man over the distance that year. He spent several months training in Turkey last summer after signing a deal to compete for the Istanbul-based club Fenerbahce. At the end of last year Guliyev decided to fly a different flag and he became a citizen of his adopted country on April 5. Potentially, the next major championship where you could see Guliyev on his blocks will be the 2014 European Outdoor Championships.
