NEW YORK (USA): New York City half marathon winner Caroline Rotich ran to a new course record of 1:08.52 last weekend but admitted her heart felt heavy after the recent disasters in Japan. Rotich has spent her teenage years in Sendai after earning a scholarship to Sendai Ikuei Gakuen, the same high school that Olympic champion Sammy Wanjiru attended, when she was 14 years old. After the race Rotich was quoted “I remember how things were when I was there and to see how they are now breaks my heart.”
SUNDERLAND (GBR): The University of Sunderland is to be the training base for Grenada’s Olympic team ahead of the 2012 London Olympics writes Insidethegames. The announcement comes three months after a Grenadian National Olympics Committee (GNOC) delegation spent a day touring the university’s facilities. One of top talents will most probably be sprinter Kirani James who recently clocked indoor junior all-time best at 400 m (44.80) and is multiple IAAF World junior and youth champion.
