NEW DELHI (IND): The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced a 90 member Indian athletics team for the Commonwealth Games, to be held at New Delhi from October 3 to 14. The team consists of 46 male and 44 female athletes. The athletes for walking events are yet to be nominated, as well as the final composition of relay team members, and is expected to announce it after September 15. Indian athletes will take part in as much as 45 events at the Games. The AFI did not name anyone for women‘s pole vault due to dismal show by athletes in the recent selection meets. The Indian federation also fields a whooping 23 coaches, 7 supporting staff and 3 team officials (managers) to assist the national squad for the above Games to be played at the Indian capital for the first time in its 80-year-old history. FRANKFURT (GER): Double olympic gold medalist Heike Drechsler will be married for second time. As leichtathletik.de writes the ceremony still needs to be held, but her new husband will be Steffen Fichtner. In time span 1984-1997 she was married with Andreas Drechsler with whom she is having a 20 years old son.

LINZ (AUT): New change in background of Linz Indoor Meeting. Meet Director Peter Hiller stepped down, but the meeting will go on on February 3 next year. Wolfgang Adler remains athletes coordinator. City and regional government confirmed its financial support. The Austrian city is still missing the outdoor meeting Gugl which was succesfull in nineties and had its last version in 2007.

NEW DELHI (IND): Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi has claimed that this year’s Commonwealth Games will be better than the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kalmadi used the occasion of the launch of the Games official song "Jiyo Utho Badho Jeeto" to make his statement and hopes to try to regain the trust of the Indian people, whose enthusiasm for the Games have been dented by stories about corruption and contruction delays. “It is going to be the best infrastructure in the world, It is going to have the best games; better than the Beijing Olympics. Everybody is working like a team - Team India." Kalmadi was quoted.

BECKUM (GER, Aug 29): European silver winner Silke Spiegelburg won at 12th edition of Women Pole Vault meeting with good 460 in rain. She also tried at new German record height 478 and second try was close. Second was Russian Tatyana Polnova (440) and third Alana Boyd of Australia (430). Barcelona bronze holder Lisa Ryzih was jumping because of rain only from 8 steps approach and achieved 425 as fifth.

ANKARA (TUR, Aug 29): Enka Spor Kulubu won the Turkish Club Super-League in men and women categories. In both final standings Fenerbahce was second. Birsen Engin clocked new national 400 m hurdles record 56.15. Euro finalist Burcu Ayahan cleared 186 in high jump and Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan won the long jump (628). Best male results by Azerbaijani guest Ramil Guliyev in the 200 m (20.73) and by Fatih Avan in javelin 79.13 (just 65 cm short of his national record).

LAGOS (NGR): Nigerian media are informing that with only a month to go, for the Commonwealth Games billed for October 3-14 in New Delhi, India Nigerian elite athletes have vowed not to report to camp unless their allowances from the African Championships in Kenya were paid. As at yesterday only a handful of athletes were in camp in Oghara, Delta State. The coaches listed for the exercise are still expecting a full house since the camp was opened last Wednesday.

BRUSSELS (BEL): Samsung Diamond League second final in Brussels at Belgacom Memorial Van Damme will have before sold out stadium special highlights in men´s 100 m (Gay wants to run fast) and 800 m (fresh WR holder Rudisha). But most competitive races should be women 800 m and 5000 m. Other very open Diamond decisions in men´s 1500 m and triple jump and women 100 m hurdles.

MEN
100 m: Tyson Gay against the clock for Diamond Race win. Or will Blake came so close to him as in Monaco? Meet record is tough 9.77 by Bolt in 2008. Also in sub 10 shape Nesta Carter.
100 m EU-Cup: Belgium is presiding the European Union, in this competition one per country of EU have been invited. A final will follow after three heats and prize money is offered too.
400 m: This non-DL race should be Borlee twins celebration.
800 m: Fresh WR setter Rudisha against Kaki and Eurochamp Lewandowski. News coming in: the pace will not be too fast, around 50 seconds. For Rudisha to win Diamond also second place is enough, but he wants to remain unbeaten.

LONDON (GBR): Istanbul, Doha and Rome are the three cities who have announced their bid for the 2017 IAAF World championships. It is likely that an African city will join the race for the championships as well as the London or Beijing depending on which city is awarded the 2015 World Championships. The IAAF is scheduled to reward the 2015 championships in November and open the 2017 bid process in January next year, confirms insidethegames.

AMSTERDAM (NED): Sprinter Churandy Martina has written in a press release that he will continue to compete for the Netherlands Antilles and has no intentions of changing nationalities. Martina is born on Curaçao where rumours of Martina competing for another country caused a big upset. As Curaçao will seen become an independent island Martina hopes in the future to be able to compete for Curaçao in international competitions.

FLAGSTAFF (USA): Arizona Star informs that Arizona's top incoming recruited athlete will be Serbia's Bozidar Antunovic, who finished second in shot put at the World Junior Championships in Canada. Antunovic will enroll in January. Another important recruit for next season is Kenyan distance runner Stephen Sambu. The NJCAA national champion at 5000 and 10 000 meters could add to the University Arizona´s recent distance running excellence that included Martin Keino, Abdi Abdirahman and Robert Cheseret.
