USAIN BOLT: "I will be ready to run fast, but main goal is to win. I know Im not in 9.5 shape, but still can produce good races. I want to be a legend and titles from Daegu are very important for that aim."

AUSTRALIA: Australian record holder and long jump world leader Mitchell Watt says that the pressure to win gold at the world championships in Daegu is an added motivation. Watt continued: “I remember doing a thing with you guys [the media] and just thinking there was talk of a medal and I thought you guys were joking. I was honestly not expecting to get a medal there and it’s definitely a lot different this time around. I’ve said it a few times but I’ll be disappointed if I don’t end up with the gold and that’s kind of put a bit of extra pressure on me saying that, but it’s the truth. He’s (Irving Saladino – PAN) definitely got the potential to jump big and also the two British guys (Chris Tomlinson and Greg Rutherford). They’ve sort of been finishing top 1-2-3 in the Diamond Leagues all year, pretty much. Then there’s Dwight Phillips, the reigning champion, he hasn’t jumped since I think Shanghai, he’s just been back home preparing, But I think as well that you can tell by the Diamond League points, it’s so spread out, that everyone’s sort of spread out the wins and the seconds and thirds. There could be another new guy that comes up and breaks his personal best by a big way, so you never know.”

OTHER NEWS

ZAGREB (CRO): The IAAF World Challenge Meet in Zagreb (Sep 13) recieved additional funding from the Croatian Government worth of 500 000 kuna. He will contest the 100 m.

GREAT BRITAIN: Britain’s Mo Farah has highlighted Ethiopian long distance running icon Kenenisa Bekele as his main threat for gold in the 10,000 meters at the World Athletics Championships, which get underway in Daegu this weekend. Informs insidethegames. “I don’t have a clue what to expect from him,” said Farah, who broke the European 10,000m record in Eugene in June. “He’s like the Usain Bolt of distance running, he’s dominated and shown by how many medals he’s won that he’s a great athlete. If he’s going to be there, of course it’s not going to be easy, but at the same time I have to concentrate on my own race.”

TRINIDAD: Trinidad´s talented 400 meters hurdler Jehue Gordon has not been entered to take part in the event at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. A release from the NAAA said Gordon’s omission was an oversight. He was entered only into the 4x400m. Trinidad were hoping he will be allowed to run his special event. Similar situation happened to Czech European indoor champion at 400 m Denisa Rosolova who saw here entered only into the 200 m and relay. Obviously her event is the one lap race and as Czech Federations representatives said, it was not their mistake she was not in the first entry list in the 400 m where shave been now added.

DAEGU TEAM NEWS

JAMAICA: Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, celebrated on Sunday his 25th birthday in good mood. He predicted he would retain his world 100 meters title in Daegu provided he gets a decent start. "When I get into my running stride I don't think anybody can match it, no matter my shape," he was quoted by agencies. He also spent his day at the store of one his sponsors, Swiss watch maker Hublot. Bolt, speaking after showing off his new gold, black and green Jamaican-colored running spikes to a group of women dressed in traditional Korean costume, said his training was going well and we was ready to run. Bolt will start his 100 m campaign on Saturday in heats at 9.45 pm local time, the best runners will not compete in the preliminary round which is scheduled for the same day at 12.55 hrs. That means he would need to run three times the 100 m, three times the 200 m (no preliminary round planned here) and possibly once 4x100 m.

USA: Changes in US Team. Trell Kimmons has been added into the 100 m and replaces Mike Rodgers, who on Friday voluntarily withdrew from the World Championships and accepted a provisional suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, after he tested positive for a stimulant earlier this summer. Kimmons was already part of the 4x100 m relay pool. Rodgers’ lawyer, David Greifinger, has indicated to USADA that he will continue to investigate the cause and will decide with his client how to proceed. The American record holder for 10,000m, Chris Solinsky, said he will not be able to compete in Daegu due to a hamstring injury. "Yesterday I had to make the hardest decision of my career," Solinsky said through his Twitter feed. "I strained my hamstring again during a speed session. I tried everything to get it ready to be able to compete at Worlds, but it was not responding fast enough," Solinsky also tweeted. He will be replaced by Andrew Bumbalough. With help from RRW.
