ATLANTA (USA): Trackandfieldnews.com says that often injured javelin American Record holder Breaux Greer is recovering from shoulder surgery. He hasn‘t thrown the javelin since the Beijing qualifying round two years ago and hasn‘t had a throw of significance since 20007 when he set the AR of 299-6 (91.29). Manager Paul Doyle says the colorful Louisiana native, who will be 34 in October is “throwing well over 80 meters in practice.” He expects to make his return next year, when he’ll take a shot at his fourth World Championships berth. LAUSANNE (SUI): IOC member Nawal El Moutawakel has claimed Africa is at least 20 years away from hosting the Olympic Games. Moutawakel‘s comment serve a huge blow to the South African enthusiasm around hosting the Olympics for the first time on the African continent in 2020. LONDON (GBR): Organizers of the London 2012 Olympics are close to reaching their domestic sponsorship target of 1.1 billion dollars exactly two years before the Games open. “We’ve raised well north of 600 million pounds,” Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, said in an interview. “We’re very pleased with that, as it’s in the teeth of a really difficult economic environment, and all that money is discretionary spending.”

LONDON (GBR): Croydonguardian writes that after Barcelona tough competition looks set to continue two weeks later at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on August 13 and 14, with the continent’s top athletes competing among an international field. The article says that Teddy Tamgho could face Philips Idowu there, Svetlana Feofanova should be the star of pole vault, Britain top 800 m runners should face Russian number one Mariya Savinova. Men javelin should see worlds number one Andreas Thorkildsen. Europe’s top three ranked high jumpers, Russian athletes Ivan Ukhov, Aleksandr Shustov and Andrey Silnov, will be challenging each other in the men’s high jump at Crystal Palace, guaranteeing a fantastic and closely contested competition. NEW YORK (USA): RRW informs that, the 2009 IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships bronze medallist Dathan Ritzenhein has become a father for the second time. Ritzenhein‘s wife, Kalin, gave birth to a boy, Jude William Ritzenhein, at 10:22 a.m. on Friday, July 23. The baby weighed 7 lbs, 15 oz. (3.6 kg) and was 19.5 inches (49.5cm) long. Ritzenhein, who also announced last week that he will run the ING New York City Marathon on November 7, already has a daughter, Addison („Addy“), who will be 3 years-old on September 28.

BARCELONA (ESP): Munich 2002 European Marathon champion Chema Martinez will be carrying the flag for the 88-strong Spanish team at the opening ceremony of the Barcelona European championships on Monday. Other flagbearers will be Christian Reif for Germany, Anita Wlodarczyk for Poland, Petr Svoboda for Chzech Republic, Naide Gomes for Portugal and Nataliya Dobrynska for Ukraine.

200 m: Tyson Gay fulfills promises, meet record 19.72 (+0.1) but the sensation came from behind. 100 m specialist Yohan Blake improved from 20.60 to 19.78! Coach Mills must be pleased. Did anybody in the history ran a faster time from lane 8? Anyway, Dix if competes in Zurich is confirmed Diamond Race winner.

400 m: Unexpected world lead and national record for Jermaine Gonzales 44.40. Another top mark from Mills Racers TC. Also Ricardo Chambers improved to 44.54, Jamaica can attack the world also here now.

800 m: Kaki in usual manner 1:43.10, but behind him plenty of joy for Lalang 1:43.29 PB, Mulaudzi 1:43.29. Kivuna, Kiplagat, Torrence PB´s.

1500 m: Even without Kiprop the best race of the year with first two sub 3:30 of 2010. Unknown Silas Kiplagat wins and registered a huge improvement from 3:34.28 beeing second at Nationals in June to 3:29.27 in his first European track race of career! Second Laalou improved to 3:29.83. Third Choge 3:30.22, fourth Wheating in his pro debut in the 1500 m massive 3:30.90, fifth Gregson Oceanian record 3:31.06. What a race. Top two became 19th and 20th sub 3:30 runners ever (Ken Nakamura).

110mH: This time no sub 13. But Oliver wins clearly 13.01 (+1.0) a meet record.

LONDON (GBR): Athletics Weekly website informs that 110 m hurdles world record holder Dayron Robles will go head-to-head with the world leader David Oliver for second time this year after Daegu at the Aviva London Grand Prix, part of Samsung Diamond League. Oliver and Robles were to face each other in Paris and Monaco but the Cuban pulled out, citing an injury. The field also contains home runners Andy Turner and Williams Sharman, who will be contenders at the European Championships.
