KINGSTON (JAM): Donald Quarrie and Glen Mills, were among five persons on Saturday night, who we're inducted into Camperdown High's Alumni Hall of Fame. The function, held at the Terra Nova Hotel here in Kingston, saw several past and present students - including Wavell Hinds, Andria Lloyd, and former principals - Cynthia Cooke and Winnifred Smith - turn out to pay their respects. World sprint double record holder, Usain Bolt, winner of three Olympic gold medals (100m, 200m, 4x100m), World 100m champion Yohan Blake, top Jamaica Administrative
Athletic Association (JAAA) officials led by its president Howard Aris, were also in attendance.


RESULTS

OSAKA (JPN, Oct 30): 27 161 runners started and 26 175 finished the inaugural Osaka Mass Marathon. Kenyan Elijah Sang won in 2:12:43 ahead of Russian Aleksey Sokolov 2:13:15. Former world champion Lidia Simon of Romania was th best woman in 2:32:48 ahead of Kiyoko Shimahara 2:33:36.

LAUSANNE (SUI): The Helsinki 2012 European Athletics Championships are set to be the first-ever sports event at which the European Broadcasting Union will be directly involved as host broadcaster. In partnership with Finnish national broadcasters YLE, the Eurovision Production Co-ordination SA will produce the first European Athletics Championships to follow the new two-year cycle entirely in High Definition. “The Barcelona 2010 European Athletics Championships set a high benchmark and we are committed to take it to another level. We are going to bring an unprecedented video quality into the homes of athletics fans next year” said Franck Choquard, Managing Director of Eurovision Production Co-ordination SA and Chief Executive of the host broadcast team of Helsinki 2012.

LONDON (GBR): Also legendary hurdler Edwin Moses has joined a team of international ambassadors that supports London’s bit to host the 2017 IAAF World Championships. Moses, the recipient of the 2012 Global UNESCO Award for social change for good with the power of sport, won gold at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics and first competed in England in 1978. „There is a great culture of the sport in this country and the spectators really respect athletics and the athletes. A World Athletics Championships in London would also see so many fans travelling to the Championships from Europe which would provide an unrivalled atmosphere.“ Moses was quoted on Insidethegames.

LONDON (GBR): Britain's rising young discus star Lawrence Okoye has been named as the latest ambassador for London's bid to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships and also a member of the Athletes' Commission. As the youngest member of the London bid team's Athlete Commission, Okoye will have the unique opportunity to influence London's bid for a Championships that, at age 25 in the summer of 2017, he will hope to be peaking at. GUADALAJARA (MEX): Jamaica will be without a single female entrant in the women's 100m, as the Pan American Games roll into high gear on Monday. Informs TrackAlerts. Both were awarded Sh50,000 each for the fete that was achieved at 9,200 feet above sea level at Mt Kenya at the weekend. Informs East Standard.

CHOLET (FRA, Oct 23): Hamid Essaid won the 10 km road race du Val de Moine in 29:52. Women winner Sarah Chepchirchir of Kenya 32:58.

TALLINN (EST): European Athletics informs that former Olympic decathlon champion Erki Nool and renowned jumping coach Yevgeniy Zagorulko of Russia (Ukhov, Chicherova, Silnov) shared their expertise and experiences at the European Decathlon Conference held in the Estonian capital city of Tallinn earlier this month. Over 75 athletes and coaches from six countries – Estonia, Latvia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland and Norway took part in the two-day conference where the main focus was on the jumps discipline of the decathlon event. The Conference, a part of the 2011 European Athletics Summit Series, was hosted by the Estonian Athletic Association.

MELBOURNE (AUS): Cathy Freeman was named the 2011 legend and inducted into the prestigious group of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in Melbourne. The two-time world champion over the 400m relived her Olympic glory from Sydney 2000 as she took to the stage and admitted that she still hasn’t had chance to get her head around what those Games did for her. Sydney and that night is definitely the jewel in the crown of my career Freeman said on stage.

LONDON (GBR): Tottenham Hotspur’s judicial review against the decision to award the Olympic Stadium to West Ham United after London 2012 will not be taking place as planned after the Premier League club withdrew. The dropping of the judicial review follows last week’s decision that the venue would remain in public ownership rather than be handed over to the Championship club after London 2012. Tottenham confirmed to insidethegames that they would no longer be going ahead with the legal action.

TORONTO (CAN): Two-Time Canadian Olympian and 2007 world silver medalist Gary Reed has launched the Reed Athletics Fund, a Track & Field Non-Profit organization. That is to provide financial and other support to Canadian men and women attempting to participate in the Olympics and World Championships. Reed wants to help them during the developmental phase of their sporting careers to assist them in reaching their full potential. Reed, now a real estate advisor in Vancouver, has committed to donate a portion of his income to the Fund and intends to support it for the rest of his life.

BEIJING (CHN): Mirko Jalava clarifies the Beijing Marathon women winner. Apparently there were two distance runners in China named "Wei Jie" this season. The other one decided to change her name to "Wei Xiaojie" to avoid confusion. The winner of the Beijing marathon is a 22-year-old athlete, the same as the winner of Zhengzhou marathon earlier this season in 2:26. She is from city of Dalian in Liaoning Province. The other one is born in 1993 and ran 15:40.31 5000m and 32:53.63 10000m there. She is from Jiangsu Province.

KINGSTON (JAM): Track Alerts says that Glen Mills, coach of world champions Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, has called on all those concerned, the government, Jamaica Administrative Athletic Association (JAAA) and the private sector to do more for track & field at the senior level to preserve the country’s legacy. Mills said the time has gone when Jamaican athletes who trained overseas would dominate the country’s team section. He also believes with the success by Jamaica in recent years, things will be changed in the US for Jamaicans.

BEIJING (CHN): The 2011 Beijing International Marathon will have Kenyan Samuel Muturi with 2:08:20 best and 2009 winner in Beijing as the top name. Another name to mention is Prague this year winner Benson Barus with 2:07:07 PB. Without best home runners the women favorite is double world champion and olympic silver medalist Catherine Ndereba of Kenya.
