RIO DE JANEIRO (BRA): Saturday 2nd October 2010 marked one year since the city of Rio de Janeiro was elected by the IOC Session in Copenhagen as the host city of the Olympic Games in 2016. While the Games Opening Ceremony was still be 2133 days away when Rio celebrated the first anniversary of its success, there has already been a lot achieved by the local organisers. IOC writes in a release.

LONDON (GBR): Sebastian Coe has said to be ‘thrilled’ about the massive response of application following his call for volunteering at the 2012 London Olympics. More than 100,000 people have already applied at the halfway point in the six-week application window. Research showed that 52% of the applicants feel inspired by the Olympics to volunteer for the first time writes Insidethegames.
