BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Birmingham has failed to bid for the European championships in 2016 even though they are redesigning their stadium to host major events in the future. ‘We have already said we will host an IAAF Samsung Diamond League event in July next year and we are also hosting the US track and field team in their preparations for the 2012 Games. So we are not saying a definite no to the Europeans – but there are simply no plans to bid as we speak.” Insidethegames reports.

JOHANNESBURG (RSA): Changes have been made to the 2010/11 South African track season. ASA included two inter-provincial championships in the six-event Yellow Pages Series. The senior season will conclude with the National Championships, which will again be held in Durban, in April 8-9. The traditional Yellow Pages Series will start in Potchefstroom on February 19 before moving on to Pretoria (February 25) and Stellenbosch (March 10). Two inter-provincial meetings will then be held in Germiston on March 26 and Bellville on April 16. The national senior championships will act as trials for the World Athletics Championships in Daegu. There’ll be special money prizes for sub-4-minute times clocked in the mile event during the four Yellow Pages Summer Series meetings from December 10 to 18 which is a new item in the calendar. The venues include Port Elizabeth, which will host the third leg of the series on December 15, following meetings in Cape Town (December 10) and Oudtshoorn (December 13). The series finishes in Parow on December 18.
