BIRMINGHAM (GBR): World record holder Usain Bolt is among the nominees in the Outstanding Male category of the Commonwealth Sports Awards, to be held this Saturday in Birmingham, England. Jamaican media are writing. The Commonwealth Sports Awards, founded by Al Hamilton, is now in its 29th year. It recognises and rewards sporting achievements across Commonwealth countries. Bolt is in the “race” against George Achiles (shooting) of Cyprus and Matthew Mitcham (diving) of Australia, in the Outstanding Male category. British heptathlon European champion Jessica Ennis, who is of Jamaican parentage, is the outstanding nominee in the female category. She is up against Katherine Grainger (rowing) of Scotland and Saina Nehwal (Badminton) of India.

ROMA (ITA): The G4 of European Athletics, national federations of Spain, Germany, France and Italy met last weekend in Rome. Federation presidents headed the delegations. All four countries confirmed they want to send its strongest athletes to the European Championships 2012 in Helsinki despite being held one month before London Olympic Games. Next meeting is planned for November 2011 in Madrid.
