BANGALORE (IND, Jun 12): The second day of the India´s National Senior Inter-State Athletics Championships at Sree Kanteerava Stadium witnessed the first national record of the meet as Bharatinder Singh scored 7658 points to better Jora Singh’s five year old mark of 7502 points. Triple jumper Arpinder Singh was the cynosure of all eyes as the 18-year-old Punjab athlete upsets national record holder Renjith Maheswary for the second time in four months this year. Arpinder, the Asian junior silver medallist, delivered a stupendous performance as he won the National Games at Ranchi this February with an incredible 16.62 ahead of Maheswary 15.96. Asian games gold medalist hurdler A.C. Ashwini brought cheer to the home-crowd as she easily put aside her opposition to win the 400m run in 52.82. Commonwealth silver medallist Harwant Kaur won the women’s discus throw from Krishna Poonia (58.78 to 55.45). Informs Murali Krishnan.

CELJE (SLO, Jun 12): Brent LaRue of USA who is living in Slovenia improved to 49.77 win at 400 m hurdles during second day of Club Championships here. Martina Ratej achieved 56.20 in javelin.
