KINGSTON (JAM): Top sprinters Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Asafa Powell were recognized at a recent function held at University of Technology (UTech) to update the public on its “Road to Olympic Glory” campaign. It was announced that a special grant scholarship to benefit children - the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce scholarship - will be offered by UTech. This will be made possible through funds raised from this year’s annual bazaar, staged by the International Proxy Parents, a charitable organisation in Jamaica. Fraser-Pryce is still a student at UTech. It was also announced that Powell will be awarded the Chancellor’s Medal next month, which is usually presented to individuals who are outstanding in sports. BARCELONA (ESP): Zurich Insurance has reached an agreement with the company RPM Racing to become from now on the Title Sponsor of the Marató de Barcelona. The official names will be so changed to Zurich Marató de Barcelona. As the first official sponsor in the history of the event, the Zurich Group wants to give full support to the city of Barcelona and to one of its international initiatives in sports. The company is strongly committed to Barcelona, where its Spanish headquarters are located, and seeks to position the Marató as one of the most important events on the international scene. Next race is planned for March 25, 2012.
