GUADALAJARA (MEX): The new stadium for track and field for the Pan American Games has been approved by the IAAF, the athletics world governing body. The track and field venue, which is just being completed with the opening ceremony set for Friday, will hold 8,500 fans and was built at a cost reported at $28 million.

AMSTERDAM (NED): The Dutch Athletics Federation KNAU has decided to keep its national records in the women’s marathon age categories as well as other distances in the road races. The KNAU decided against following the IAAF’s recent decision concerning the women’s marathon world records as they feel it is not necessary to implement the rule on a national level.
