SHEFFIELD (GBR, Feb 6): At Inter City Meeting Tom Parsons again this season cleared Paris qualifier 228 in high jump with Robbie Grabarz next 2.24. Bernice Wilson competed once again during the weekend winng 60 m in 7.32. Holly Bleasdale, still only 19 improved her pole vault best to 450 and tried at new UK record 461 cm.

MERU (KEN, Feb 5): Little known Mary Mananu (21:16) surprised East African cross country bronze medallist Fridah Kaimuri (21:30) to win the junior women’s 6km race in the NBK/Athletics Kenya Eastern Branch Cross Country championship in Meru. Silas Muturi (23:00) won the junior men’s race ahead of Daniel Kinyua (23:24) and Alex Mureithi (23:32). Former Standard Chartered Nairobi International Marathon champion Pamela Lisoreng (26:58) won the Administration Police Cross Country championship senior women’s 8km race at Administration Police Training College, Embakasi. Mukundi Mwangi (35:59) triumphed in the men’s race, ahead of Peter Kirui (35:40) and Henry Chirchir (35:41). Informs The Nation.
