LONDON (GBR): The Cuban-born triple jumper Yamile Aldama will compete for Great Britain at next year’s Olympic Games. Aldama has been a British resident for quite some time. “She’s actually lived here for coming up to 10 years, ever since she left Cuba in 2001,” said Aldama’s long-time British coach, Frank Attoh in The Independent. At the age of 38 and 12 months after the birth of her second child, Aldama is looking to compete in a third Olympics for a third different country after previously competing for Cuba and Sudan.

NEW YORK (USA): Sub-4:00 high school miler and world class junior triathlete Lukas Verzbicas was involved in a bicycle accident on Saturday and gashed his right knee and elbow, according to a Twitter post and an accompanying photo. Verzbicas had won the USA junior triathlon title without incident, then crashed out in the team relay later on the same day. Verzbicas, who is training for the World Junior Triathlon Championships in September, needed 13 stitches on his elbow and knee. “It really sucks when the doctor tells you that you have strong skin while he’s applying stitches,” he wrote.
