AUCKLAND (NZL): Nick Willis will not be able to double the 800m and 1500m at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. The Olympic silver medallist was aiming to emulate compatriot Peter Snell but now is forced out of the 800m because of injury. Willis will put his focus on the 1500m, in which he is the defending champion. Peter Snell won the imperial equivalents, the half-mile and mile, at the Empire Games in Perth in 1962. Willis competed last weekend at a cross country race in USA and was 2nd at 8 km with 24:29. He was beaten by one second by Aaron Simmoneau of Michigan State at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational in East Lansing. As RRW points out Willis will also compete this weekend the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue mile in New York.
