MUNICH (GER): Katarina Witt has been given the support of IOC vice-president Thomas Bach to help deliver the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to Munich. Witt has taken over the high profile position after Willy Bogner resigned due to illness and will be the face of the campaign, at the same time Bernard Schwank takes over as chief executive. „We must now work hard to integrate the public into this bid and make every effort to fulfill our common dream of the Olympics in our own country,“ Witt was quoted oninsidethegames.biz.

SYNDEY (AUS): Australian defence has sought assurance from the head of the Indian army that the safety of Australian athletes at the Commonwealth Games will be taken care of. Terrorist attacks in India over the past two years, and threats reportedly made on the Games by militants, have made security a key challenge during the event. There is a security plan in place and the Indian police is well prepared and aware of the threat however security preparations could be hampered by ongoing construction work and the Indian army will be on alert during the Games.
