CHARLOTTE (UVI): The CAC Games will be held in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico end of this Month and the US Virgin Islands will be sending 136 delegates in 11 sports. The CAC Games, held every four years, are one of the events that qualify athletes for the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. “We’re hoping to have some medal contenders at the CACs and 400 m runner Tabarie Henry is definitely one of them,” said Wallace Williams, one of the USVI track and field coaches. “Coming off, what we consider, the best year in V.I. history, many of the territory’s top track and field athletes will go to Mayagüez with hope.” A huge absence from the active team will be LaVerne Jones-Ferrette, a USVI national record holder who won a silver medal at the 2006 CAC Games. She will not compete for personal reasons.
