STOCKHOLM (SWE): Sweden’s Angelica Bengtsson, who won gold at last year’s World Youth Championships has decided to skip the World Junior championships and plan for the European senior championships instead. The 16-year old confirmed to European-athletics.org she has another chance of competing at the World Junior championships in two year’s time and therefore puts her focus on the senior competitions this year. Bengtsson will compete at the European Youth Olympic Trials in Moscow where she wants to qualify for Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. She currently holds a personal best of 437 but is aiming to clear 450 this summer which is the world junior record set by Russia‘s Valeriya Volik in 2008. German junior pole vaulters Joana Kraft and Caroline Hasse have also shown great promise of possibly breaking the world junior record with 445 and 440 jumps during the indoor season.

CHICAGO (USA): Just under two weeks remaining before his second attempt at the John Hancock Boston Marathon, marathon runner Ryan Hall has announced he will run the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 10 this year. Citing the fast course that suits his rhythmic running style and the chance to expand his charity work in the city of Chicago, Hall and Chicago race director Carey Pinkowski announced the decision even before the start of the major spring marathon season.
