ITALY: Schwazer world leading 5000 m walk

ANCONA (ITA): The Olympic 50 km gold medalist from Beijing 2008, Alex Schwazer surprised with great achievement at 5km Race walk clocking 18:46:49, the fourth fastest time in the Italian history and world leader. The bronze winner from Helsinki 2005 did not end the race at last World championships in Berlin, but now looks well prepared and determined to win again. Elisa Cusma Piccione, the 800m specialist who won a bronze medal at the 2009 European Indoor Championships confirmed the favorite position among women at 1500 m winning in 4:19.45, while Mario Scapini clocked 3:45.38 to beat the rest of the field in men´s 1500 m. Domenico Fontana took national title at men´s 400 m for 47.70. Giorgio Piantella won the men´s pole vault leaping over 540. In high jump, Raffaella Lamera achieved 190m to win in women´s category. Marzia Caravelli managed 8.26, and John Mark Nalocca 7.93 s at 60 m hurdles in women´s and men´s categories.


CZECH REPUBLIC: Svoboda improves to excellent 7.44

PRAHA: Superb Czech record 7.44 of Petr Svoboda highlighted the first day in Stromovka Hall. The Berlin 6th placer showed already in heats how easy it can be to run 7.52. In the finals he tried hard and clocked second fastest of the year and 6th best performer ever in Europe. Libor Zilka from the same training group defended his 60 m title in 6.66 (PBeq). In long jump battle Roman Novotny edged Stepan Wagner by 2 cm (775-773). Decathlon world record holder Roman Sebrle was satisfied with 8.19 at 60 m hurdles, on Sunday he competes in pole vault and shot put. Svoboda´s girl-friend Jirina Ptacnikova cleared her life-time best in pole vault 456 (also meet record) and tried at new Czech record 466. European indoor silver winner Lucie Skrobakova clearly dominated her event with 8.06 at 60 m hurdles. In the 60 m final Iveta Mazacova clocked 7.38 over Katerina Cechova (7.41). Oldriska Maresova cleared 190 in high jump to get her first senior title over slightly injured Iva Strakova (187). Denisa Rosolova improved her best in the 400 m heats to good quality 52.97. Javelin world record holder Barbora Spotakova was 8th in shot put (13.97) and 6th in the 60 m hurdles finals (8.88).
