CHULA VISTA (USA): Historical first women´s pole vault olympic winner and world champion Stacy Dragila (38) who retired last year is expecting to give birth to her first child, a girl, this spring. She married two-time Olympian and three-time USA men‘s discus throw champion Ian Waltz on December 12, 2009 in San Diego. Dragila started her athletic career in rodeo and gymnastics and later discovered track and field. She first excelled in the heptathlon before finding her niche with the women‘s pole vault. Writes USATF. Her best ever 483 was achieved at Ostrava Golden Spike meet in 2004.

AUCKLAND (NZL): New Zealand will be sending a team of nine to contest the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz Poland on 28 March 2010. New Zealand Athletics writes. The senior men’s team for the 12km event is: Andrew Davidson, Edwin Henshaw, Kim Hogarth and Shaun Krawitz. Rachael Kingsford is the sole representative in the senior women’s 8km, Fiona Crombie and national record holder Kimberley Smith who is based in the USA, were selected but are unavailable. Aaron Pulford subject to his availability will contest the junior men’s 8km while Olivia Burne, Nicki McFadzien and Danielle Trevis have been selected for the junior women’s 6km.
