NAIROBI (KEN): Athletics Kenya (AK) plans to decentralize national championship events in future to take sport to the grassroots, standardmedia.co.ke inform. „For a long time, AK has restricted national championships to Nairobi. But because most of our athletes train and live in Eldoret and Nyahururu, we plan to decentralize the championships,“ said AK boss Isaiah Kiplagat. He said the national cross-country would alternate between Nairobi and Eldoret, while Mombasa and Nairobi will be hosting track and field championships. At the same time, organizers of local Road Races would be required to obtain clearance from the head office before inviting athletes to compete in their events to prevent young runners will end up burning out.
