SAN VITTORE OLONA (ITA): At the seventh leg of the IAAF cross country permit meetings, the Cinque Mulini, Ethiopian Humegaw Mesfin took his second major Cross Country win in 2010 writes iaaf.org. The Ethiopian, who‘s 21st birthday was today, showed he is a force to reckon with at the upcoming world championships. From the start the trio of Mesfin, Abera Chane and Kenyan Richard Mateelong broke away but it was Mesfin who broke away to secure a 14 seconds win. Mesfin clocked 28:03 ahead of Matelong 28:17 and Chane 28:20. Best European Vasil Matviychuk of Ukraine was fourth (29:24). In the women‘s race Olympic 1500 m champion Nancy Langat broke away at the bell from Tizita Bogale and built her gap to five seconds over the Ethiopian to come home in 19:25 beating Bogale by five seconds (19:30). Portugal Ana Dulce Felix prevailed over Briton Stephanie Twell by 15 seconds in the fight for third place in 19:42 (19:57 for Twell).

LEE VALLEY (GBR, Jan 31): Outstanding return to form for relay 2004 olympic winner Mark Lewis-Francis. Now free of long standing achilles injury he clocked 6.59 for 60 m, his fastest since 2004. Next Saturday he will race against Dwain Chambers in Birmingham. Also European junior champion Lawrence Clarke improved his best for 60 m Hurdles to 7.72 and over 60 m Bernice Wilson sets PB of 7.31 in narrow win over Belgium‘s Fatmata Bangura (7.32).
