VILNIUS (LTU): In the Lithuanian vote for the Sportspersons of the year the discus throw hero Virgilijus Alekna ended third and sprinter Lina Grincikaite ninth. The U23 4x100 m relay (third at European Championships in Kaunas) was third best team of the year.

LONDON (GBR): The chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA), Colin Moynihan has proposed a new bill in the House of Lords that would allow police to raid the Athletes‘ Village at London 2012 to search for performance-enhancing drugs and potentially criminalize competitors caught with banned substances, informs insidethegames.biz. „That would mean that if someone was blood doping at the Olympic Village in 2012, they [the police] would have the right under law to search the premises under a warrant,” said Moynihan, a former Sports Minister in Margaret Thatcher‘s Government. This latest proposal, Moynihan believes, will also strengthen Britain‘s reputation as having the most draconian anti-doping program in the world. „If athletes know that could happen, we are going to deter people from cheating and doing themselves harm,” said the Olympic silver medal holder from the 1980 Games in Moscow.
